I'd been talking to the BronyCon: The Documentary guys about them taking a really nice photo of John, Lauren and Tara on BronyCon weekend, which I could then print right there at the con and-- after all three of them signed it-- donate said print to the charity auction.
At the documentary's fancy dinner Friday night, I was gazing out the window at Manehattan's incredible skyline, and I went "IIIIIDEEEEAAAA!" I'd found the perfect backdrop.
So after a wonderful dinner, with much great conversation, we all went out onto the pier overlooking the city. Laurent took a shot or two with his DSLR and I took a shot or two with my little point-n-shoot.
In the end, the point-n-shoot shots came out a bit better (I've been told by a friend who knows more about the technical nuts and bolts of optics than I do that this is due to smaller CCDs dealing better with shots involving very nearby foregrounds and very distant backgrounds), so this was the photo that was used.
So, TL;DR: This was that photo that got signed and sold for a few hundred at BronyCon's charity auction!
